Esak Consulting is a pioneer in green roof research in Edmonton with novaNAIT and Dr. Leonie Nadeau. Native plants were monitored on their roof, with the collaboration of novaNAIT and Solstice Canada Corp, in 2009 and 2010. This work was a catalyst for other green roof studies in Edmonton in 2010: the Williams Engineering building and the Edmonton Waste Mangement Centre.

2011 - We researched new compost mixtures for flowering ornamental plants. We also conducted research with NAIT Capstone Students on 2010 mixtures.

2012 - We researched new compost mixtures for food-producing plants, including cucumbers, squash, and corn. We also presented our 2011 research at the 2012 Alberta Soil Science Workshop. This year we have been involved in the beginning stages of developing a Greater Edmonton Green Roof Consortium with the goal of linking the various green roof research initiatives occurring across the city. If you know of planned projects or would like to share your expertise, please email gedgrc@gmail.com.

2013 - We researched new compost mixtures for food-producing plants, including tomatoes and peppers. We presented our 2013 research at the 2014 Alberta Soil Science Workshop. The members of the Greater Edmonton Green Roof Consortium are currently working on transitioning to a working group on green roofs under the Alberta Low Impact Development Partnership (ALIDP).
